Since embarking on technical research in the insect industry in 2002, the development of HaiKun Agriculture has always kept pace with industry upgrading and technological innovation.     • Led by founder Wei Haibo, the team initiated research on insect breeding and cultivation technologies in Anhua County, Yiyang City, Hunan Province. Adopting a rural breeding cooperative model, they focused on Tenebrio molitor (yellow mealworm) breeding. Through independent exploration and consultations with experts, they mastered core breeding technologies, and further expanded early-stage sales channels by traveling to regions such as Zhejiang and Fujian.
      2002
    • Given Shandong's abundant raw materials, suitable climate and high farmers' participation, the team moved to establish a cooperative branch there, offering training courses on breeding technologies. They also partnered with local universities, purchased insects raised by trainees, and initially formed a "breeding - purchase and sales" channel and scale, which helped address part of the local employment issue.
      2004
    • Later, the Shandong cooperative entered large-scale operation, continuously optimizing and providing training on breeding technologies for core varieties such as Tenebrio molitor to drive more farmers' participation. It further deepened cooperation with local universities to improve seed source stability and breeding efficiency, ensuring the production capacity and quality of the "breeding - purchase" chain.

    • Saibang Biology was established in Changsha, expanding the breeding varieties to include Tenebrio molitor, black soldier flies, mealworms, cockroaches, crickets, and more. The team continued to carry out breeding training, purchased a large quantity of insects raised by trainees, and further improved the sales network, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent industrialization and branding of insect products.

    • The team conducted extensive experiments on preserved insects, focusing on optimizing vacuum packaging and high-temperature sterilization processes. They overcame the core technical bottleneck in live insect preservation, providing key data support for finalizing the "zero-additive preserved insect" products.
      2008
    • In the follow-up phase, in the breeding segment, the operational scale of the Shandong cooperative was further consolidated, with sustained efforts to optimize the seed sources and breeding efficiency of core varieties including Tenebrio molitor and mealworms. In the market segment, in-depth cooperation was strengthened in the feed and pet markets across East and North China, and the standardized packaging of primary insect products was advanced in parallel to align with B-end customer requirements. In the technical segment, the focus was placed on improving the stability of preservation processes, thereby accumulating practical experience in large-scale production.
      2009
    • R&D on insect-sourced protein feed was initiated, focusing on exploring the formulations of insect powder as a feed additive and its applicable scenarios. The feasibility of insect protein in pet, aquatic and other related fields was verified, further extending the boundaries of product categories.
      2013
    • We focus on insect breeding, insect meal feed raw materials and the R&D of preserved insects, improving the integrated chain of breeding, processing and R&D. Meanwhile, we are optimizing the sales network and connecting with more B-end channels, laying a solid foundation for the company’s subsequent operational scaling and brand development.
      2014
    • Officially registered Hunan Hailun Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd.; launched the "Kunwa" brand, focusing on zero-additive preserved insects, entering the high-end pet food market with high-temperature sterilized vacuum packaging; participated in the AQUARAMA International Aquarium Exhibition.
      2015
    • Established a Jinan branch to strengthen breeding capacity and market service capabilities in northern China; attended the CPF International Pet Expo (Guangzhou) to expand domestic pet product channels; advanced the standardization of preserved insects, dried insects and other products as well as the construction of quality control systems, so as to meet the needs of B-end wholesale and C-end retail.
      2016
    • Moved the production center from Jinan back to Changsha to integrate R&D and industrial resources in Hunan; participated in exhibitions such as INTER ZOO (Nuremberg, Germany), AQUARAMA International Aquarium Exhibition and CIPS (China International Pet Show) to connect with global channels; advanced the preliminary preparations for US FDA registration and EU TRACES filing, laying the groundwork for export compliance.
      2017
    • Since 2018, we have gradually optimized the industrial chain layout, launched the international brand "PROBUGS", and obtained authoritative certifications including US FDA registration and EU TRACES filing access. As the first preserved insect export enterprise in Hunan Province, we embarked on the journey of global export.
      2018
    • Having obtained US FDA registration and EU TRACES filing, we exported preserved insects for the first time to the United States in May, including preserved grasshoppers, cockroaches, silkworms, etc., with a total weight of 602.35 kilograms and a value of 283,800 yuan. We also reached shelf-listing agreements with 5,800 pet feed supermarkets/chain stores in the United States.
      2019
    • We further deepened our global layout by establishing subsidiaries in Japan, the United States and Malaysia, with products selling well in Southeast Asia, Japan, Europe and the US markets. We advanced the standardized construction of breeding bases to ensure export capacity, continuously optimized preservation, freeze-drying and other processes, expanded the application scenarios of insect protein products such as insect meal and insect oil, and participated in international exhibitions to enhance the global influence of the PROBUGS brand.
      2020
    • The PROBUGS reptile insect puree series won the First Prize for Innovation in New Reptile Products at SuperZoo in the United States. We deepened cooperation with global supermarkets to expand the market share of high-end reptile food, advanced the R&D of protein conversion technology, and built a full-industry-chain operation system from source to terminal. This system covers key links such as insect breeding, product R&D, production and processing, standard formulation, and insect preservation technology, forming a closed-loop model of raw materials, R&D, production and sales to ensure product quality and supply chain stability.
      2023
    • We developed gecko fruit puree powder, calcium powder, vitamin powder and other products, expanded the scale of breeding bases, and increased the production capacity of dried insects, freeze-dried insects and other products. We also expanded into emerging markets such as Europe and Australia, improving the global sales network.
      2024
    • We launched new products including fruit puree powder, calcium powder and vitamin powder, which received positive market feedback. We continuously strengthened international compliance qualifications to consolidate our leading position in the global high-end insect protein market, advanced the digital upgrading of the industrial chain, and improved production and supply chain efficiency.
